HTC Advances Slope Protection & Stormwater Rehabilitation Works for Arab Potash Company in Aqaba

Hasan Al-Tarawneh & Sons Contracting Co. Ltd. (HTC Contracting) is executing specialized slope protection, stormwater drainage and structural rehabilitation works for Arab Potash Company (APC) at its industrial facilities in Aqaba.

The project addresses slope instability, erosion and uncontrolled stormwater runoff through an integrated package of engineered protection, drainage and structural rehabilitation works.

Execution within an active industrial environment requires carefully controlled work zones, coordinated sequencing and strict safety management while maintaining the continued operation of surrounding facilities.

Engineered Slope Protection & Stabilization

A major component of the project involves the stabilization and protection of erosion-prone slopes within the industrial site.

HTC’s works include engineered shotcrete stabilization systems, reinforced mesh protection and heavy-duty riprap works designed to improve slope integrity and resistance to erosion.

These systems provide long-term protection against environmental exposure and high-flow stormwater conditions while safeguarding adjacent industrial infrastructure.

Stormwater Drainage Infrastructure

The project includes the construction of a reinforced-concrete stormwater drainage system designed to control surface runoff across the site.

HTC is delivering approximately 640 meters of reinforced concrete drainage channels and ditches, forming the principal stormwater conveyance infrastructure for the project.

The system is designed to direct stormwater safely through the industrial area, reducing erosion risks and protecting surrounding facilities and infrastructure from hydraulic damage.

Structural Rehabilitation & Strengthening

HTC’s scope also incorporates targeted rehabilitation and strengthening of existing concrete infrastructure.

The works include reinforced-concrete jacketing, crack repair, localized concrete restoration and surface-treatment activities designed to restore structural integrity and extend the service life of existing assets.

Combining structural rehabilitation with slope protection and drainage works creates an integrated approach to improving the resilience and long-term performance of the industrial facility.

Execution Within a Live Industrial Environment

The works are being executed within operational Arab Potash Company facilities, introducing additional requirements for access control, safety, sequencing and coordination.

Construction activities must be carefully integrated with ongoing industrial operations while maintaining controlled work areas and compliance with site-specific safety requirements.
