Hasan Al-Tarawneh & Sons Contracting Co. Ltd. (HTC Contracting) has been awarded the Rehabilitation and Maintenance Works for the Dam System within Wadi Al Yutum Basin, a major multi-site flood protection and hydraulic infrastructure project for Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC).
The project covers rehabilitation and strengthening works across multiple dam assets within the basin, combining large-scale earthworks, embankment reconstruction, rock protection and erosion-control systems within one coordinated package.
The award further expands HTC’s portfolio in dam rehabilitation, flood protection, wadi infrastructure and hydraulic asset rehabilitation across Aqaba and southern Jordan.
Multi-Dam Rehabilitation Across Wadi Al Yutum
The project involves rehabilitation and maintenance works across several dam and flood-protection assets distributed throughout the Wadi Al Yutum Basin.
The multi-site nature of the works requires coordinated planning, equipment deployment, material movement and quality control across dispersed locations rather than a single isolated structure.
Execution will focus on restoring and strengthening existing dam infrastructure exposed to stormwater runoff, erosion, scour, sediment movement and seasonal flood events.
Large-Scale Earthworks & Embankment Reconstruction
A major component of the project is the reconstruction and rehabilitation of dam embankments and associated protection zones.
HTC’s scope includes approximately 124,000 m³ of core earthworks, combining bulk excavation with engineered embankment and fill placement.
The works incorporate compacted rockfill, alluvial embankment materials, boulder fill and engineered fill to restore and strengthen critical sections of the dam system.
The scale of these activities requires heavy equipment deployment, material handling and coordinated earthmoving operations across multiple workfronts.
Riprap & Gabion Flood Protection Systems
The project incorporates major erosion-protection systems designed to strengthen dam aprons, slopes and other areas exposed to hydraulic impact.
HTC’s works include approximately 20,000 m³ of riprap protection and 19,900 m³ of gabion mattress stabilization, creating nearly 40,000 m³ of engineered erosion-protection works across the basin.
These systems are designed to improve resistance against high-energy stormwater flows, erosion and scour while supporting the long-term stability of the rehabilitated dam infrastructure.
Strengthening Aqaba’s Flood Resilience
The Wadi Al Yutum dam system forms an important part of Aqaba’s wider flood protection and stormwater management infrastructure.
Rehabilitating these assets supports improved runoff control, erosion resistance, sediment management and protection of downstream infrastructure during major storm events.
The project contributes to the continued resilience of critical wadi infrastructure while improving the long-term performance of existing flood-protection assets across the basin.
