HTC Advances US$5.1 Million Wadi Rum Village Infrastructure Expansion Project

Apr 10, 2024

Major turnkey infrastructure project delivers roads, utilities, flood protection and site development across Wadi Rum in Aqaba Governorate.

Wadi Rum, Aqaba — 2024

Hasan Al-Tarawneh & Sons Contracting Co. Ltd. (HTC Contracting) is advancing the US$5.1 million Wadi Rum Village Infrastructure Expansion Project, delivering a major turnkey infrastructure development across one of Jordan’s most distinctive regions.

The project covers the development of a fully serviced infrastructure network across approximately 800,000 m², transforming undeveloped desert terrain into a structured development area supported by roads, utilities, flood protection systems and off-grid electrical infrastructure.

The works further strengthen HTC’s portfolio in large-scale infrastructure, earthworks and remote-site execution while supporting the continued development and expansion of Wadi Rum.

Large-Scale Earthworks & Site Development

The project includes extensive earthworks and site formation activities forming the foundation for the wider infrastructure network.

HTC’s works include bulk excavation, grading, leveling, material processing, hauling and placement across road alignments, utility corridors and development areas.

Execution across multiple workfronts requires coordinated equipment deployment, logistics management and careful sequencing within demanding desert conditions.

Roads & Transportation Infrastructure

A major component of the project is the construction of an extensive internal road network supporting access, circulation and future development across the site.

The works include formation layers, subbase and basecourse construction, asphalt paving, curbstones and associated road infrastructure.

The completed road network will provide durable access across the development area while integrating with the wider utility and drainage systems.

Utilities, Flood Protection & Solar Infrastructure

HTC’s scope extends across multiple infrastructure systems required to support the long-term operation and expansion of Wadi Rum Village.

The project includes water supply networks, electrical ducting, telecommunications infrastructure, stormwater channels, gabion protection, riprap works, drainage structures and reinforced concrete culverts.

More than 450 solar-powered street lighting units are also being deployed across the development, providing independent lighting infrastructure suited to the remote desert environment.

The combination of utilities, drainage, flood protection and off-grid lighting creates an integrated infrastructure platform designed for long-term resilience and future development.

Delivering Infrastructure in a Remote Desert Environment

The scale and location of the project introduce significant execution and logistics requirements.

Works are being carried out across multiple simultaneous fronts within a remote desert environment, requiring close coordination between earthworks, road construction, utility installation, drainage systems and electrical infrastructure.

The project demonstrates HTC’s ability to mobilize and execute complex multi-disciplinary infrastructure works in remote locations while maintaining control over sequencing, logistics and system integration.

Strengthening HTC’s Infrastructure Portfolio

The Wadi Rum Village Expansion Project represents a major addition to HTC’s infrastructure portfolio in Aqaba Governorate.

At US$5.1 million, the project combines large-scale earthworks, road construction, utility networks, flood protection, drainage and renewable-powered lighting within one turnkey development package.

The project further strengthens HTC’s experience in infrastructure development, roads, earthworks, utilities, stormwater systems, flood protection and remote-site construction across Jordan.
